Ah! Thanks. My recollection (or the report I read) regarding OU was wrong. The reporting on the Ole Miss chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon is that it was just suspended by National and the three members expelled. I suppose that means National can reinstate the chapter any time they want to, so long as Ole Miss doesn't boot the chapter off campus.

It was interesting in the speech that Boren did address the possibility of redemption, even if he did not use the word. He spoke of some of the chapter members learning from the experience and being held accountable; but that he hoped to avoid them being branded with a label for the rest of their lives.

I'm good with honest redemption. No one should be branded for life for dumb crap they've said in their youth. One of those SAE knuckleheads on the bus has already come out and received such.

I have to agree.

One of my best friends where I worked was a member of the KKK when I first met him. Over time he did a 180. I think a lot of it had to do with him taking classes at night towards a college degree. He stuck with it for 10 years and finally got a degree in Anthropology. Nothing like a liberal arts education to cure one of bigotry.

His heartfelt apology had the appearance of sincerity. Time will tell.

Another observation about Boren's statement: he hasn't lost his knack for a politician's delivery. You can take the University President out of politics, but you can't take the politics out of the University President.

He was a pretty good senator, a remarkable senator, considering the state that elected him.

But I'll never forgive him for loosing James Inhofe on an unsuspecting world. I mean he didn't even put up a fight!
