I was trained with an M-14, M-16, and Colt M1911. Who fucking cares what you, or I, were trained on.

It's one of 20-30 scenes from Kilmer in the movie that are classic, isn't it? The movie as a whole was pretty dopey...but his work was just spectacular.

In the Air Farce we had a day on the M-16.
Two half days actually.
It consisted of one afternoon in the classroom where they showed us how to get sight picture and told us to squeeze the trigger, don't yank it, and the following morning at the range where we each got to shoot 70 rounds, 10 to warm up and 60 to qualify, with the instructors breathing down our necks.
I wouldn't call that training.
I didn't have any problem qualifying though because I had taught myself to shoot on the single shot .22 that my mommie got me for my 15th birthday with six books of S&H green stamps.

Gives some semblance of comparison and validity to any law enforcement versus military argument for daily availability?
You know, for someone who actually thinks (which wouldn't be you).

Considering this is coming from an amoral psycho...I will temper my buy-in with that in mind.
PS - you really think anybody gives a shit in your hat what guns you were "trained" on? Reckon what that "training" might have been anyway, eh? Get your shoot 'em in the top of the head skills honed at The Reinhard Heydrich School of Firearms Training.

1. You're a dumbass.
2. I have extensive training using a variety of tools.
3. That does not include an armored personnel carrier.
This would, of course, be because its use is difficult to rationalize an APC in normal policing. A Glock, Mini-14 and Mossberg 500 -- on the other hand -- may become necessary at a moment's notice.
The obvious question is whether policing has changed so much (I believe it has) that things like an APC are necessary and, if so, what sort of additional training (open question) comes with its use?
