Tell me John, DQ and Tom could you look down the barrel of a rifle at an enemy combatant and with love and goodwill in your heart pull the trigger? I sure as hell could not as I am not that screwed up.

I'm nothing special. Put me in a war situation, and I'm as likely to kill as anyone I'm sure. I hope I'd retain enough of my peacetime self not to hate too much or too broadly, to draw lines at what we call atrocities--when others do unto us.

What jumping I do is on specifc points for cause I try to explain. I think I'm thinking a lot, and it's not my intent to be mean or abusive. My apologies for ever giving any other impression. I will consider apologizing more specifically if you will point out a specific instance you feel is over the line.

False dichotomy.
It's not about love and hate. On an individual level such as you describe above, it's just about survival. On a strategic level, it's about a willingness to engage in acts of unspeakable barbarism and cruelty. The fact that one side makes that choice is not a license for the other side to do the same.

Good lord, Rob, we're just disagreeing with you and, if anyone is betraying a lack of thought, it's those who react emotionally to Daesh and promote the idea that their actions warrant a similar, or even more extreme, response from us.

It's not just you Don.
My simple suggestion is that we take a deep breath and re-read what has been posted and go from there. I suspect that we are all of the same mind in regards to these barbarians called Daesh. These people are using innocents as shields and tragically some of those will be killed getting at this cancer that is plaguing the world.
Peace, over and out.
Bob

I guess, absent a specific complaint, I can continue debate if i see further points to make Sorry, but I do see some difference, and i don't feel 'just letting things go' is the thing to do.
But I don't mean to be personal. Peace to you too.

Gerson (Gee Dubya's speechwriter)defends the President's stance?

Scroll through the comments and you'll see how well Daesh's sickening propaganda is taking root on the right.

All I have bben attempting to point out is that what you are calling 'unspeakable barbarism' is simply war as she is fought. No matter how many times you call out "I say chaps will you please come out where we can get a clean shot at you' I really doubt they will do that.
And although I can understand that vet's viewpoint in very few time have I hated anyone, as Carrie Fisher once said 'that is like taking poison and waiting for the other guy to die'.
What emotions I do have I reserve for those I love. For beings (is that better) like ISIL I am really quite cold-hearted, won't waste emotions on them. But it is us or them.

I know that's what you've been saying and the above statement betrays either a complete lack of understanding of what Daesh has been up to (in between beheadings) or a similar lack of understanding of the rules of warfare as practiced by us and our allies.... or both. To put it bluntly, you simply don't know what the hell you're talking about.
