I don't see what troops on the ground would accomplish. We'd be able to take control over areas, but who would keep them? Even the Kurds (Peshmerga?) in Iraq ended up running. The PKK in Syria [edit - and Iraq] might be capable but Turkey is NATO.

I suspect we'll escalate the bombing and drone strikes though. Maybe we can keep them on their heels.

You do not give up.

And did we not arm a large Iraqi army?

Don't think so Pete. IS moves around, they don't hide in the hills. Easy pickings for the drones. I have a feeling there may be convoy airstrikes soon. O doesn't seem to be taking this lightly at all.

Lightly? There must be a misunderstanding. I never said he took it lightly.

That's not what I said or implied at all. Your trying to justify these acts because it will not change a belief, I get that but to stick your head in the sand doesn't change the outcome. Except more people will die and this belief will grow.

Goodness gracias I never said Obama was giving up either.

Since reading seems to be colored by preconceived notions of me let me reiterate:

I have NEVER called for troops on the ground in this conflict.

I HAVE agreed with Obama's stated course of action thoughout.

I HAVE criticized him for caving from his stated course of action in the face of opposition, mostly from his own supporters, and have pointed out the obvious result.

I agree with his current actions. And while he's in the driver's seat, and so has better info and advisors than I, I just don't see what ground troops would accomplish even now.

If there are ambiguities in the above please let me know. If I have said otherwise quote it.
