I can understand wanting a government that is non intrusive, that leaves people alone as much as possible, a government that is pretty basic. I don't understand people who "don't believe in government"
Just what sort of society do these people envision we would have with 316 million people and no governing forces?

Yeah, I fail to see how fighting for your basic survival on a daily basis could be called "freedom". Every obnoxious bully with a little firepower would become the local mayor for life, like it or not. Anarchy is like trading one tyrant for millions.
Screw that.

Actually, it would take about a week for various tough guys to bunch up in gangs. The default form of human society is peasants ruled by brigands.

That's actually kinda what I was trying to say. "Warlords" is a good term to describe what Anarchy degenerates into. That's why it's impossible to have no government, unless one manages to live completely on his own. The ambitious among us will always seek power and call the shots. Without some process for the rest of us to choose leaders, they will appoint themselves and take control by force.
Has history not shown this time and again?

I haven't had a lot time or energy to keep up with this story, but came across some interesting information.

The very people who assume that they would be the Warlords.

Exactly. That sort of extremist wants the existing governing structure thrown into disarray, so they can fill the void.

True that, everyone becomes an instant enemy and deadly opponent. What a great way to live. Constantly fearing for your life and fighting to the death for a bread crust.
