It's understandable when a country thinks it's the center of its universe but things get unreasonable when it insists that it is the center of THE universe and the rest find that reasonably unacceptable.

What an American tragedy - his girlfriend made him pregnant.

It's possible he could be forced to sell the team if the sponsors bailed and fans boycotted the games with the players essentially not playing for him, making him the sole source of cash to keep them going. In other words a money draining burden he'd have to eventually shed.

Now a private conversation is taped and released, and all of a sudden the league takes action. The other things he did had real consequences for real people, but there was no "swift and decisive" action by the NBA.
We supposedly relish free speech, but Sterling, Campanis, and a host of others who embarrassed themselves and their institutions with what they said get banished. But those who take discriminatory action against people - so long as they are discreet about it - walk. Is there nothing more important in this world than PR?

Not to defend this @sshole or the league, Elgin Baylor lost his lawsuit and the DOJ settled out of court without any admission of guilt. Then you have the NAACP awards. In any event, this prick is toast.

Thankfully the NBA isn't a court of law . This miserable piece of chit opened his mouth and inserted his foot until it protruded out his rectum for the world to see. The fine will be donated to anti discrimination causes to be determined by the NBA and it's players association. I'm happy with the outcome. He violated their internal constitution and under that contract he can be forced to sell the team.
addendum - to be clear as a bell, my comment, "Swift justice", was referencing the time it took from the publication of Sterling's odious remarks to the NBA acting in this matter. Make of it what you wish Don.
