Hal Roach had some fun with sight gags and Laurel and Hardy (Ollie mostly) in the "bottomless" puddle. A chivalrous gesture with Ollie's overcoat covering a puddle for a lady backfires when she sidesteps the puddle and he doesn't ;


Also a memorable sight gag scene in "Leave them Laughing" involving the boys in a somewhat dilapidated Model 'T' Ford encountering a bottomless puddle.
