Has anyone anywhere in this thread brought up "single payer- full participation" basic health care as the preferable alternative, which apparently couldn't get serious traction at the outset.

As one of the resident Canadians I am sure that I must have mentioned it.

I have Conservative Canadian relatives that don't seem to be impressed with the system up there, but they were in serious need of assistance when the system was having problems back when. I love them but they are Henny-Penny conservatives by disposition.

Our Son just went through a whole battery of tests at the Ottawa Heart Institute because of atrial fibrillation brrought on by the stress of an ugly divorce. Just talked to hime last night after he got home from five days wityh his daughters in Florida. He has not had another attack since they released him. He goes in for an echocardiogram Wednesday and sees his speci@list Friday. Total cost $0.00. That Heart Institute is world class.

BTW I was a paid up member of the Joe Clark Conservative Party when I lived there, but I would not touch Harper's Conservative Party with a stick. When they naturalize you here and take your passport the folks in Ottawa simply mail it back to you. Apparently the only way to relingquish your citizenship it to go there in person and renounce it, but my travelling days are pretty much over.

This ought to make the conservatives' blood boil (at least the cohort within the conservative movement who is actively trying to screw the vote).
Better yet, they should make sure everyone gets a voter registration form, throughout the country.

"Californians who used health marketplaces receive voter registration forms"

"California officials have started sending voter registration forms to 4 million people who shopped on the state’s new online health insurance marketplace, as part of a legal settlement with voting rights groups that are urging states to make it easier for people to sign up to vote as they enroll in coverage.
The groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union, had threatened legal action against California, arguing that it did not comply with the 1993 National Voter Registration Act. The law requires that people in 44 states and the District of Columbia be given the chance to register to vote when they apply for public benefits, such as Medicaid and food stamps." WaPo

Why, Bob, don't you know? Only Democrats shop the exchanges. No self-respecting Republican would dream of it. There are Kenyan cooties all over the sites!

Plus, they know it would only cost them more money and they'd have all their health care decisions made by some Washington bureaucrat. They know because they heard it on FOX!
