I had one of those behemoths, a 4 door Broughham. It shot a rod through the oil pan on the freeway, so I bought a Kawasaki.

My 87 was very similar, but triple dark brown with leather, very classy and the best overall car I've ever owned. The seat position and controls are by far the most comfortable of any I've driven. And the hood ornament makes it go really fast.

With what I know now you find a low mileage 302 out of a 2000 or so Explorer, direct bolt in, 215 hp with 280 ft lbs stock, a full dual exhaust, and swap the whole rear to a 4.1 with discs, not a flame thrower but enough power to be 'modern' and surprise folks.

Those full size 70s Fords were monsters. My friends mom had one, we could fit a 12 pack in the glove box - with ice

It would be fun!

I had to pull the air filter box off the Grand Marquis, there's a 'snorkel' press fitted at the front of it that extends into the area behind the headlights.

For some reason it's a restrictor. I measured, the inlet is more than 50% smaller than the hole in the box. I pulled it off. The engine sounds better, and it has a bit more pep.

It's the thing on the left of this pic:
