Meanwhile, in Scotland...

They're going to vote on independence on Sept 18th.

It's fairly close-seeming at this point.

Taking the U out of the UK?

This is, in my opinion, sort of a big deal...

Agreed, it's an incredible thing. Top of the list - what happens to the Union Jack?

My gut reaction is they'd be crazy, but that's also uninformed. I don't know.

I read in the Post that some posh Tory was threatening to take them off the pound sterling if they carried through with it. That'll raise some hackles in Edinburgh.

Then England would need to redo more that the Union Jack, Scottish symbols are all over the money, postage stamps, buildings, etc.

I'm seeing a lot of threats bandied back and forth, but if they withdraw (which I seriously doubt) they will all play nice I'd bet. If they stay on the Pound they wouldn't have control over their own currency.

They'd also have to rename the Union Jack. Union Joe?

There's always the euro. I think the EU would welcome them with open arms, especially if the North Sea oil fields become Scottish.

Then they still would not have control of their own currency, better to create their own.
