the poll results here are definitely NOT in line with national results. the last i heard, obama's approval rating was still in the high sixties percentage wise. i haven't had time to study on the the details, but obama signed an anti-smoking bill today. as a smoker, in the past 6 months or less, i've had tax increases raise the price of the generic cigarettes i smoke from around a buck and a quarter a pack to darned near 3 bucks.

i can't say that i'm a proponent of smoking. it was a foolish decision when i started smoking and it is now a terrible habit that i wish i didn't have. i've made one attempt to quit, and will again, but it's tough for me to do.

but damned if i want to be FORCED to quit. the government is legislating morality via taxation. that is NOT it's purpose. whatever happened to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"?!! rumor is that they are going after alcohol next, and then sugar (soft drinks, etc.).

you know, i watched an old movie the other day, Demolition Man with sly stallone and wesley snipes. the men are incarerated in a cryogenic prison and thawed out in the future where the world is a much different place. everything that is not healthy is illegal. another movie comes to mind, Escape from LA where societal circumstances are similar. it kinda makes you wonder what the good ole USA is coming to.

rant over.

The problem is my friend that you are "pursueing lung cancer" not "happiness" and I speak as one who smoked from 19 to 69 and quit, though I still enjoy the taste of a cigarette.

I find the poll results here somewhat interesting. It makes you wonder how he got elected, but I have a theory. The "folks" who voted him in, don't really follow issues or politics, so they wouldn't be on a forum such as this. I think a lot of them (a majority maybe), were simply voting for the cool guy, because voting was cool. I can honestly say that I don't know a single person that follows the news, that voted for Obama. I know several people who did, but they are more the type that watch Southpark or MTV over the news.

Oh my.....you have just described my sister and for the most part, my parents.

My sister is a pharmacist. We were recently together all week while my Father was having some surgery, so we had MANY hours together to chat. One of the topics that came up was Nationalized Medicine. She is VERY much against it for many reasons. Namely, working as the inpatient pharamacist at a hospital she knows the issues with Medicare and Medicaid and (damnit, now I can't think of the watchdog group for hospitals' standard of care) that are faced every day and with Nationalized Medicine, will likely be similar if not worse. This same well educated girl voted for Barry because all she knew is that she HATED Bush.....nothing more.

She watches no news (owns no television), reads no newspaper and listens to no radio. She gets all her info from her friends and coworkers and forms "their" opinion. She doesn't realize what she voted for and will likely not put two and two together until somebody spells it out for her.....I didn't have the heart to do it myself.

I hardly think this group is a cross section of the country as a whole. Recent surveys appear to indicate that Republicans are in a minority, or at least ones willing to call themselve Republicans are.

that is interesting. I have to hand it to you, you pulled allot of info from 12 votes. Are you a professional news analysis at FOX?

See, there's the problem. 11 + 2 = 13 votes

Must be.

I know I did not cast a vote as it had no category for me. I was very uncomfortable voting for a man who's wife is (or should I say was)clearly a racist and had limited experience. I voted against Palin and against McCain's compromised ideals.
That being said I have been stunned at the long over do intellectual approach to the office Obama has brought. This coupled with his core beliefs of service and responsibility of all the members of the sociaty has left me surprisingly proud to call him my president.
Had there been a category "pleasantly surprised", I would have voted.

Hmm, 11+2=12, you must be on Obamas budget team.

Would anyone disagree that Obama got thousands upon thousands of votes from people who had not a clue about the goings on in Washington?

Tis devoutly to be hoped, what goes on in Washington would curl your hair.
