Here's an article from one of my favorite wordsmiths and journalists, Matt Taibbi in The Rolling Stone. Get 'em Matt!

A little taste of Matt's ascerbic thrashing of Ms. McArdle over at Bloombergs rag...

"Look, I've never been a fan of the Affordable Care Act. I thought it was a flawed bill, rushed into being for political reasons, that was destined to leave a huge chunk of our health care problems unsolved, in the process creating complex new burdens for taxpayers while preserving regulatory and financial handouts to the predatory health insurance industry."
"So I get saying the ACA is expensive and won't reduce costs. Thanks to the piles of subsidies they left in the bill and a slew of other problems, I might even agree."
"But you'd have to be a complete sociopath to assert that expanding access to health care to millions of people doesn't improve their health – and that the only tangible benefit of health care reform, in fact, will be taking money out of the pockets of hardworking taxpayers like yourself, and redistributing it to the incorrigibly unhealthy."

I know this is off-topic, I got it from a Rolling Stone article on Palin. But, I recall making this point here and elsewhere and being assailed for it;

"Palin's mind is amazing. Slavery was purely a private-enterprise abomination. It had nothing to do with being subservient to the government. It was the opposite of that, actually. She was also wrong in the sense that the health care program isn't "free stuff" (even those who will receive subsidized care will be paying in one form or another for their policies)."

It's the truth. The only part the government played in slavery was that it passed and enforced laws that protected slavery. The real slave drivers were all private citizens and businesses.

I mean even all of the California Federal tax returns are processed in Utah ....
I think Cali or the Feds gave that to them for jobs.....

It sucks alright. From the article you posted:

"But they are still shy of initial projections from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which originally expected 4.4 million people to sign up for a plan by the end of January. Moreover, the administration has not provided data on how many of the people who have signed up for plans through the exchanges have actually made a payment, which is required to ensure coverage."

The first payment for health care was due January 15. I'm guessing there hasn't been time to tally up who has paid and who hasn't.

Maybe they are like Care First, we asked back in December where were the invoices. They said they had been prepared but not yet mailed. Well we got them Jan 2 and payment was due Jan 4. Since the office is local we mailed the checks Jan 2. Then we get invoices that they claimed were prepared Jan 1 and no acknowledement of our payment. So I wrote up a nastygram for Florence to include with payment - but payment only for the Jan part. Oh yes private industry is so very efficient.

Geez Mike get a life.
