This country will not be destroyed from the outside but from within. Since most of our manufacturing base is either overseas or dependent on supplies from overseas we are no longer in a position to fight wars.
Wars seem not to happen when both side have nuclear weapons.

So far, knock wood. But it seems almost everyone is able to see an unacceptable level of risk there. Though we did get too close with the Cuba thing....

Actually I think we can fight wars pretty well

it is not the fighting part it is the trying to remold countries into our own image that always fails.

I see that as a case of forgetting our own history - nobody handed the 13 colonies democracy on a platter. People have to want it. Expecting people who are told what to do and when to do it and where to accept democratic goverment is naive to say the least.

The above statement was what 'elsewhere' applied to. I see what you mean about what I call Janus but the only folks fighting for lowered spending are on the right.

The 'conflict' with China will hopefully NOT be open warfare. It will happen, it has already started. China is waxing. They have trillions in cold hard cash, not counting the additional trillions in IOUs from us.

Since no one has yet taken my bet about whether we'll reach a 2.2 million enrollments for January 2014, anyone want to take a bet about whether we'll end up with more forced health insurance cancellations than enrollments in Obamacare by the end of January?

That's fair, since they're not counted toward the total of policies cancelled.

Me too.

Dredging up China was a distraction.

The folks "fighting for lowered spending" from the right are fighting for 2% or 3% or 4% lower spending than the folks on the left. You really trying to pitch that 3% difference on a 17% problem is "fighting for lowered spending? Really???????

They just made a budget deal Pete. Was that the budget deal you wanted? It wasn't the budget deal I wanted. It wasn't even the budget deal Krugman wanted. And I suspect you think Krugman is a communist.

No politician in Congress is fighting for anything close to meaningful lowered spending Pete. They're whores fighting for votes by spewing propaganda they think will keep them in office.
