Bitching for no reason...

December...

Once, not immeasurably long ago, I loved this time of the year. My folks' anniversary was the 20th, mine was the 21st, Christmas was the 25th, my birthday is the 28th and New Year's was the 1st.

It was like a week of joy.

But I've been divorced a long time because unconditional love, wasn't. I don't go home anymore and Christmas is meaningless to me (my birthday even less so).

At this point, this time of year just makes me hate, Hate, HATE.

Shit.

I know this sounds kind of harsh, but;

Just get on with it. Start over again. You can get it all back again. Hating all the time serves no positive purpose.

I hear you.

My favorite day of the year is Jan. 2nd, when all this crapola is over.

Man if ever someone needed a hug it's you.

Hoping in the next year you have something to be thankful for.

Zeke , The Holidays are diminished for me also,Both of my parents are gone as well as a murdered sister and a murdered brother. And there is not a day that goes by that i miss them so much.I still have my wife and she is the only reason I go on.We both share the same birth date but for me that date has always meant nothing to me.but one thing we have to do ,And that is to keep our heads up and go on and be the best we can be because that is what God put us here for to overcome the shit lifes deals.

It is a day to day thing ,some days are shit and some are so good you forget the bad.It is all in our attitude as to how we rise to the ocassion.Stand up and let the world see the man you are in all of God's Glory.Every day is a new begining. And today we give thanks for being able.

Zeke my first marriage was no prize, we were both looking for happiness ant thought marriage was where it lay. It was pretty good for a time but when we did not find happiness we strted looking for someone to blame. Well guess who was close by.

That done I had pretty much given up on being happy, then what I can still only believe was divine providence put Florence and me together in that blizzard. We courted across 500 miles by letter and phone - mo internet in 1983. After a handshake and many letters she agreed to be my wife, that was over thirty years ago and I have never been happier nor has she. In fact her life before was even worse than mine. I have a photo of her standing in the doorway of Shakespeare's house in Stratford on Avon, she travelled with me when I was still lecturing. Her face reflects a happiness that she did not know before and if all I ever do in this life is to have made her happy I am content.

I am in no way trying to piss you off, but you're miserable because you're making yourself miserable. I'm sure that is you pay attention to your thoughts, you will realize that you're dwelling on the notion that you're miserable, thus conditioning yourself to be miserable.

The solution is simple, stop doing it. Accept the fact the no one or nothing is perfect, including yourself. Realize that whatever is eating at you is neither good or bad...it simply is. It's like a rock in your path. Either push it out of the way or go around it. Or take a different path. Just don't waste your time focusing on the rock, it is unworthy of your attention.

I realize this is pretty lame, but you can either be miserable or happy, they both require the same amount of effort. You can either focus on the damned rock in your path, or ignore it and go somewhere else.

And while you're at it, take a look in your rucksack. You'll probably find that it's full of past miseries. So dump them out right beside the rock and lighten your load.

You don't need to drag them along, you'll find plenty of miseries on down the road. You don't need 'em anyway, unless you're a misery collector...like my sister in law.

Think about it, things aren't so bad that someone else doesn't have it way worse.

Chas

PS: The only reason I'm wasting my time writing this is because I used to be a misery collector too...until I realized what I was doing.

Zeke, here is no simple solution. But you get a break if you can send part of yourself up onto the riverbank to watch the emotions go by. Or float around in little circles, if you're off in the swamp....
