Every policy I have ever been offered has had 4 price structures. Self, self+spouse, self+kids, and family. Those of us with a wife and kids pay 3X what the single guy pays. Granted the "kids" group can be from 1 to 20, but it still is only being paid by those with kids, and my guess is that it is priced at 2.3 kids or something like that.

Yep. I"ve been told,

"I guess it has some good parts, but it's all that other shit buried in it."

When I asked "What "other shit"?, I got; "I dunno, but you can bet it's there and there's a lot of it."

Says it all, doesn't it, Rajoo?

I checked around a couple years ago and at 47, single, with a history of heart troubles and onset of degenerative arthritis (All hereditary.), the quote was < $600/month. (Not PPACA. I have not checked that yet.)

Last year, my employer informed us that their average per-employee health insurance cost was ~$1,200 month.

How anyone could possibly think this is acceptable, (Much less some sort of great "tradition", to be preserved.), for either employer or individual is beyond me.

All I can figure is it's future shock on the part of many. One way or the other the old system was becoming a massive burden to business and individual alike and had to go. Whether PPACA will be better or not.....I don't know. And, only being a few days into the launch is no indication of future performance to any reasonable human being, IMO.

Any plan that opens up insurance markets to more people has to be successful in some manner.

You need a few years. However it is highly unlikely any GOP President will repeal it once it is in place like Medicare....and the morons who do want to stop it (like Cruz) will never be President.

I do not really believe the Baggers want it to go away. Otherwise once a black President is gone they will not have a reason to raise money......unless Obamacare is still around.
You see the average Bagger congressmen loves Obamacare so they have some reason to exist and cause havoc. But it should not rise to the level of national sabotage.

Dave I suspect that your employer is lying through his teeth, even addingbin Medicare A&B for both ofvus (separate policies) it is $12000 per year or $1000 per month for two people. And I see my doc about once every 5 years.

No, they are not lying. Insurance on my employees had crept up over 1400 per
month about 4 years ago. I cancelled/ stopped payment and had them apply for
personal policies. Rates are now 479 per month and I reimburse them.

~300 people, (In the USA) most of them +30 and married with kids..............

$1200 is not inconceivable. But, then, neither is my employer lying.

Well if we get coverage at $500 each and it is such good coverage that we rarely ever see any out of pocket expense, those companies that are charging $1200 and $1400 must be making a hell of a profit.

My employer pays 14,160 annually for my insurance, add my portion of 3,140 and you come up with 17,300 annually, or 1,442 monthly. That is for my kids, the wife, and myself. It is a good policy with a 20 dollar copay and a 500 dollar deductible. Most preventive care is covered at 100% and not applicable to a deductible, so I have yet to ever hit the deductible. I don't think I could find anything close on the open marketplace for the 260 bucks a month that I pay. For some reason, I don't think I could find as good a policy even if my employer dropped coverage and gave me what he pays to add to it.

It should never be like hitting the lottery having good healthcare. I figure the days of businesses tied to offering healthcare are numbered now.
