Pink Floyd---Wish You Were Here

Lp. For some reason, the vinyl rig is sounding utterly sublime tonight. The phono preamp has a set of those Russian repro Tung Sol 12ax7s in it. I think they're finally burning in.

I have a set of NOS RCA 5751, black plate, triple micas on the way. Can't wait to try them out.

Charlie Parker---The Essential Charlie Parker

Verve Lp.

After the last post, it occurred to me I hadn't checked the mail today.........

There they were.

At first, they sounded kinda crappy, and I wasn't happy at all. Then, I remembered the 5751 is a low gain tube and I had the phono pre set to run 12ax7 which is a high gain tube. So, I rolled it over and bumped the gain up a notch.

Now, THAT'S more like it!

Those new TS 12AX7's aren't a bad tube for cheap, I like 'em better than the Sovtex LPS. They have more meat on their bones.

That said, they're still not RCA black plates. I just figure that if I buy the RCA's, I'll be happy.

But I'm talking about small tubes. I'm too cheap to spring for RCA power tubes.

I've been wanting something tubish for the main system. Tried a tube buffer with predictable results, a big meh. Are you running it into the 9300 or soiled state amp?
