I suppose you have a point, it could be argued that Martin was not only standing his ground, but taking additional real estate while defending himself against a perceived deadly threat. Of course, at that point it could be argued that Zimmerman was also in fear of his life and was simply exercising his right to self defense.

SYG doesn't apply to Zimmerman in this case, since he was lying on the ground getting his head busted.

Another point I've considered bringing up is what about poor Zippy, what about HIS rights?

But I don't think I'll pursue that line of reasoning, for fear of only further inflaming the passions of the current lynch mob.

I think this is what the case is really about:

We let citizens buy and purchase all manner of semi-automatic weapons with virtually no regulation.
Then we assuage this madness by saying look-people kill people not guns. Then we throw those that use the weapons we let them buy into the Correctional system so as to feel better about ourselves. Look we threw the asshole in jail we all say.

Of course murderers should be put in jail. But I see this case as a new trend...hey we do not have to put this guy in jail he was standing his ground. Martin is a sympathetic victim...young, obviously innocent of any crime, and a guilty of being black. We as a nation felt sorry for him and justly demanded a trial. However if Zimmerman had shot a white middle aged man in the same fashion, or another Latino his own age.....he might be at home drinking beers on the 4th of July. He was just standing his ground ...and the murder (no witnesses so we took Zimmerman's word) would be unpunished.

I do not want that sort of trend. I do not want increasingly armed citizens thinking they can take the law into their own hands and then claim oh I was standing my ground.

I do not want people walking around with Tek 9s.....do you? fully automatic or not.

Sadly, I have a feeling it isn't going to be served this time either. And, that truly is a sad thing. I'm watching our country devolve into lawlessness by the day.
