"Just the thought of putting on some itchy wool uniform, and then living in a tent in some bug infested weed patch in the middle of July while eating hardtack is enough to make my skin crawl."

Heck yes! I forget the numbers, but what struck me was hearing how many died simply from heatstroke, frostbite or disease. It was some unGodly number.

I was talking to one reenactor and he loved it. He had uniforms and all of the necessary equipment to be on either side.

He said around here he was generally a Southerner, but when he went South he was a Yankee because, "Nobody down there wants to be a Yankee."

A most likeable and entertaining fellow. That said, we certainly have two very separate definitions of fun.

Well what about the real fellows?

When war was declared whole communities were overjoyed as if expecting manna from heaven.

Although from a movie "COLD MOUNTAIN" :the joyous eruption which occurred and interrupted church service when the congregation was informed that a war was on, I am told is representative of the time.

"I have got myself a war!".

Dancing, merrymaking, firing of shots in the air. WTF.

Use to work with Civil War reenactors. Tough bunch of guys. Real strict on what was allowed. But they do like to drink at night after the battle.

WTF is up with people who still treat war as if it is a game now? You'd think we would have learned something by now.

One of the guy's brings a cannon and limber so drives a 40' motor home with a trailer. Many a night we spend after the ball into the wee hours.

Never got into the CW era more a French and Indiana, Rev war dress up kinda guy. But those days are gone now. To hot and will not fit into the leathers anymore.

So you've actually participated as a reenactor?

That's great.

Been racking my brain to remember the guys name who is in a scene of the movie Gettysburg. Got shot going over a fence. (really just tripped but they used it as a kill shot!) They were all in the movie but he is the only one to get a closeup.
