The Cost of Immigration Reform ...

... or more precisely, the cost of not doing immigration reform. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office just released a study in which it states:

The immigration bill under consideration in the Senate would reduce federal deficits by nearly $200 billion over the next decade, and continue generating savings in the years beyond, even after millions of new citizens became eligible for health-care and welfare benefits, congressional budget analysts said Tuesday....In its second decade, when people currently living here illegally would become eligible for federal benefits, the legislation would reduce deficits by as much as $1 trillion, the CBO said.

What's a xenophobic budget hawk (i.e., Teabaggers and their ilk) to do?

Good question.

I'm pretty sure they'd rather run the country down the toilet than let all of those brown people stay.

DING-DING! ( I await the slobbering dog.)

Since I did it the legal above board way you might think I would be against reform but to me it only makes sense. I will say that back in the day when I came down INS sure could have used a bigger budget, they were certainly under staffed here in Charm City.
