My thoughts exactly.
We have laws against drugs, does not seem to be working so why not repeal them?
And then there is speeding. We all speed anyway. I know I do. So abolish speed limits.
Answer is this will lead anarchy and we are a civilized society and most of us are law abiding. So in a civilized society it is good to know and yes regulate who can buy and own a gun legally. Operative word is legally and not ownership.
