I'm frankly surprised this is the only domestic terrorist bombing we've had since 9/11. Not surprised that they caught these guys so quickly.

To do summat about this I have written to the President to the effect that the victims should be compensated.

Better than rubbing salt into the wound. Of course since none of them is a Wall Street bank I guess we can't help them out.

Only country in the civilized world where this discussion would even take place. Special indeed.

I suspect private funds will step in and pick up the slack. Why should the government compensate victims of crimes? 9/11 clearly was an attack organized by a terrorist organization. The Boston bombing was - at least as far as we know at this point - the act of a couple of screwed up kids with some funny ideas. If it is established that their activities were organized by an outside terrorist organization, then I'd possibly be in favor of treating the victims in a similar manner to the 9/11 victims with a fund administered by the DOJ.

I could see a hefty surtax on gun sales to compensate innocent victims of gun violence. A Reaganesque, if you will, pay as you go scheme. Anyone know what explosives they used?

I dunno about a pressure cooker surtax, though.

Private funds for so many who face a lifetime of medical bills, not to mention loss of income?
Not likely.
There will be (gratefully) an initial out pouring of generosity and then, in a few years, those folks will face the ongoing expenses using what ever resources they can find. Most will end up on Medicaid or social security disability.

That’s really amazing, the explosives just jumped in the cooker all by itself.

But why not go after the manufactures of the pressure cooker? Chit we can even go after the makers of nails, Ball bearing and remote control cars… There all WMD’s… think of the wind fall of money.
