The US government gave the Russian government free reign in what was really a war of aggression against Chechnya. They were freedom fighters labelled as terrorists because it was expedient to do so.

The bombers have an uncle in Boston. He described the kids as "losers" and said their dad is in Russia. From what I can gather it appears that the kids developed a champagne taste on a beer budget, marinated in some extremist philosophy, and cracked. I had some friends from Russia and they got bit by the same bug when they came to the US in the early 1980s. They became materialistic as all get out, almost pathalogicly so.

American materialism and Islam don't mix well in the brain. They should have tried some Ayn Rand as that stuff is custom brewed for materialists. They would have turned into the assholes they despised but at least they and their victims would still be alive.

What is the difference between Chechnya and Georgia? They border each other. I'm trying to wrap my head around this and remember hearing Bush give Russia a direct order to stop bombing Georgia.

Think about it. And what do you mean by left? Most American news groups in the mainstream media were assuming an individual upset with the government or overseas terrorists. There is a reason people knee jerk this way: 9-11 and Oklahoma.

But I keep on hearing that it's not proper to profile. That said, I tend towards a traditional, narrower, definition of terror than its current expanded form. Currently, the term is applied to any group directed violence; however, that is not the classic definition IIRC. Moreover, the overwhelming majority of international terror incidents are propagated by people with one thing in common—and it ain't just becasue they've been repressed by the West.
