Not yet. Wait till the US Navy zaps some Somali pirate boats.

Okay, so that was in 2000...thirteen years ago. And, it was a boat at very close range that they could have shot with conventional firepower..........had they known it was coming and reacted in time.

Point is; They didn't. The laser wouldn't have been any more useful.

But, it is cool.

My wayfair question was; When was the last time a US naval vessel was attacked by an aircraft?

That would be the USS Liberty in the Med.

".... The LaWS will initially be used to combat small boats that pose a threat to larger U.S. Navy vessels — much like the small Iranian fast boats that pester U.S. ships in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.

..."

Plus it's scary tech Wonder what we have that we DON'T know about?

Last I checked, the US and it's Navy does not own international waters. Now they want to blind people for cruising around in a "fast boat"? Does Bass Pro Shops know about this?

Mebbe we can get the Grateful Dead's "Wall Of Sound" mounted on a fast frigate and play show tunes at volume level 11, at those pesky Iranian fast boats?

I'm thinking WW2..............

Sure, it's still possible, but think about it.

Does the USS Stark ring a bell?
