Nope, still running the Daytons and they actually sound pretty darn good. It just took a long time for break-in. (Or I got used to them........)

Dave

I'm still thinking about those Daytons. My Ewave project got shoved to the back of the queue after I picked up the Wharfedale W70s, but it is still simmering.

I feel like taking my Wharfedales back to the thrift I just have too many speakers and the wharfie cabs are beyond help.....maybe I will harvest the drivers.
I have always felt these speakers are a tad too bright and boomy...but maybe they need to be restored.

Yessir, the Gold Lion repros, they singin' as I type. But, I can't play them loud for a few more hours.
Brighter than the GEs I've been running. And have a huge soundstage.
The GE 6BQ5s are wonderful sounding tubes too, just a bit darker. I will keep them as back ups. Also have some Reflektor 6p14ps.
You'll be interested to know I've also acquired a beautiful matched pair of Mullard 6EU7s that do the "flash" thing on start up. These actually made the biggest leap in performance over the GEs I had in those sockets. Again the GEs are good......but, the Mullards are great. What is it with these Limey tubes? (Well, the GLs are Russian, and bear little resemblence to the originals, actually. But, damn, they sound good.)
Did you read the thread I started at AK about this? Geez. It finally came down to Dave Gillespie and BigErik basically saying; "It's your money, if you want to give'm a try, go for it. There's no way they can damage your amp." Finally! Some of those guys get into the most nit-picky minutae and get lost in the details.
I'm of the mind that if it sounds good and you don't see any smoke----just sit back, pop a brew and enjoy.
Regards,
Dave

I thought the snakes popping out of your head comment was pretty funny. There are a lot of noobs and even some old timers gettin' argumentative and snarky over there lately. Maybe it's the S.A.D. thing? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasona...ctive_disorder
One guy got himself benched for poking Grumpy's lawyer with stick in that KT120 build thread recently.

Good quality control? Less concern with eking a tiny bit more profit over quality compared to American companies? Not bashing us, just spitballing a bit. I've read many opinions over the four or so years that I've been fooling around with tube audio, mostly AK but several other places and the general consenus has been that they are the best tubes for blues. Telefunken are almost as good. Those are my personal impressions, in the gear that I have. There was a definite aha! moment with Mullards for me. Good bass and not too much in your face highs. So far I've never heard much of a difference in the output/power tubes but then I've never jumped up past the new issue Tung Sols. Sylvania's and GEs are what I'm using. The Tung Sols started to redplate. The Reflektor 6N6C cheapies seem to handle everything I've thrown at them. Go figure, eh? I'll have to test them all out one of these days, I picked up a BK 747 tester that took a bit of work to get going.
The front end tubes always have shown the biggest change as you've seen with the 6EU7 Mullards.
Sorry for the ramble, gettin' sleepy, bud. See ya manana.

I think on the output side the biggest influence is the iron. But, that's a little more difficult to just switch back and forth all willy-nilly.
The Reflektor tubes are amazingly tough. The sound is okay, but I have one set of 6p14ps that I pulled from a wasted Lafayette integrated that had been though a house fire. No shit, the knobs were melted off the front of the unit, resistors & caps melted and burst, just totally AFU--------but the tubes are still good.
