Ever try to talk to a Yooper?
Thanks, Robbin. I wondered about different dialects of Tagalog or even different languages in different regions or on different islands.
A lot of the Polynesian languages are related but evolved in isolation from each other to the point where a Hawaiian from say Maui can't understand a New Zealand Maori.

I wholeheartedly recommend a trip if you have never gone...all you need is about $1k for the off season tickets (like April dry but very hot) and about 2k for everything else. If you eat like a local it is about $1 per meal...that is what my wife was paying for her relatives. You can stay at a nice hotel for about 40 bucks or cheaper if you are more adventureous.

My maternal grandfather was a Yooper. His most prized rock collection was a fantastic selection of Michigan copper. Nice people up there-north of the border. He's to blame for my rockhounding hobby and lapidary interests.

That gal has got the sexiest voice in all of rock and roll.
I'm getting all hot and bothered thinking about that recording.

My Dad was into lapidary for many years. He built his own machinery; Polishing tables, tumblers, etc. We made a lot of trips to southern Ohio, looking for flint and walked many miles of shoreline looking for various sorts of rocks.
I miss those days.
Regards,
Dave
