My forecast for armed teachers in the classroom. No one will want to do it so it will fall to the one teacher who is thought of as a little different by both staff and students. He will take his new responsibility very seriously. He will clean and shine the gun frothing at the mouth and having a hard on over it. And then one day when he has had it with the kids he will get it out....
As Pogo says, “I have seen the enemy and it is us”.

The NRA would love everyone to be armed! I for one do not want to live in a country with armed guards on every corner to protect me.
Sorry but this NRA thinks a gun will solve all problems. Lets see, on one hand the Right thinks the teachers and staff are qualified to be security, but on the other are little more then over payed baby sitters needing to be replaced by non-union personnel.
Just how much worst does it have to be before the NRA and the extreme Right wakes up to the fact some weapons are just not meant for society.

Of course, this is Virginia. So, you charge the kid and release him to his parents---which is, most likely, where he got the gun. But, Lord knows you never blame the gun owner. They're like businessmen to the rightwinger, they never do anything wrong. It's ALWAYS got to be someone else who is to blame......

I know it's kind cheesy to quote yourself, but I can't believe there were no comments on this. A twelve year old kid has been charged with illegal possession....for toting a gun into his school.

I read that and it first made me think about insurance coverage. In that your insurance liability will be waved because of lack of control and care in keeping weapons out of the hands of children. Parents should be charged along with child and gun should be melted down!
There was a kid who brought a pistol to school this week in Louisville and pulled it on other students. But was only news for one cycle.

Blue streak, at the elementary school my sister works at, kids bring weapons (guns and knives mostly) every day. They have armed guards at every entrance that pat down everyone entering the building. They also have guards that escort children to the parking lot to make sure the custodial parent picks them up.
My sister spends more time on security measures than teaching.
The really sad part is that this all seems perfectly normal....

It happens. I agree the parents should be charged. I'm surprised he wasn't expelled for life though.

Does anyone remember that shootout in New York. Trained police shooting and innocent bystanders wounded in the crossfire. Now picture a bunch of sillyvilians who don't even know how to chamber a round out there shooting.

Police should not be allowed to carry guns.
