I bought the vinyl in 1979...I remember buying Armed Forces when it came out also was sad I did not get the one with the bonus 7" 45 from the Hollywood High show with live cuts. I have seen him twice in 1994 and 2010. In the 70s I thought he was the best writer since Lennon and McCartney...do not think I was too far off. I am pretty sure that I was the only person in my little town in Ohio listening to Costello back then...my neighbors made fun of me for it.
I liked the Clash too was lucky to see them live in 1982.

I was still in the dorm when I first heard him. I seem to recall that he, Nick Lowe and Ian Dury were on the same label. At least they were emerging at the same time. Nick Lowe is a pretty respectable songwriter as well. Ian Dury - his most memorable bit was "Sex and drugs and rock and roll."

Regards,

D-Ray

Nick Lowe has produced a lot of Costello's albums.

Nick produced the first three Costello records (maybe the best three albums). If you want to hear a really great album you should get Nick Lowe's Dig My Mood from 1998...I found it a thrift it is really good...

Yeah the label was called Stiff Records....both Rachel Sweet and Linda Ronstadt did Allison....I need to get some Rachel Sweet. I think Ian Dury is dead sad to say.

You know the good stuff even though not popular always will last. Costello was never a really big name, and neither was Squeeze. The Clash did break through with some hits before they broke up. But you still here many Squeeze and Costello songs 30 years later....
