"Real patriots vote for or against candidates based on substance, not smears."

Why? Are we supposed to ignore someone's idiocy, or at least fail to comment on it because they had some seriously bad luck 40 years ago?
To the best of my knowledge, McCain has never hidden behind his war experiences or used them for advantage. That's to his credit, IMO. In a small way, your defense of him on that basis really only diminishes McCain's stature.
I don't consider McCain any more or any less a hero than any other person who ever served in a theatre of war. He was just unluckier than some and luckier than others.

But the 'pretend to burn his metals' Kerry is still deserving of my respect?

By your own standard, yes.

Apparently we are not understanding each others standards.

I'm voting for a lady running for city council tomorrow that withheld the portion of her taxes that went for the Iraq mess and only ended up paying because the IRS took it from her.

Big difference between you and Kerry Pete. He walked the walk.

And turned his back on it.
And suckered the left with his pretending.
If called I will serve.
