Not sure where this should sit

It's kind of political (I think).

Gary Mckinnon. Does the U.K. deciding not to extradite him to the Land Of The Free matter to anyone? It just might be 'our' politicians showing extraordinarily good timing. With the US elections just 3 weeks away, unless one of the Presidential candidates talks about him will anyone care a rats arse about Gary Mckinnon? Add in the settling in time after the election and it will be old news anyway.

One thing interests me. Where was the crime committed? The U.K. or the U.S.A.? The hacker lived in Glasgow. Hacking is a crime in the UK. The effect of his hacking was felt in the USA. Hacking is a crime in the USA. Was the plan to flip a coin, or keep a 747 refueled while with judge and jury on board it flew in circles over the Atlantic?

I'm glad that the UK has refused extradition and hope it's a precursor to a re-evaluation of the lopsided treaties we have with you guys. According to them, you must extradite on the grounds of reasonable suspicion and we must extradite for probable cause, two very different standards.

The Extradition Act of 2003 looks like an offshoot of our idiotic, misnamed and short sighted Patriot Act which has temporarily gutted our constitution. It's good news that your people have stuck to their guns, as it were, in this. Otherwise he could be sharing a cell with the likes of Manny Noriega for the rest of his life.
