If programs such as Sesame Street are such a big help in teaching our children, why has the graduation rate never again reached the peak it hit in 1970?
Sesame Street debuted in Nov. 1969.
I remember the teacher wheeling in the television once a week when I was in middle school, for "The Electric Company", a show targeted at a slightly older group than Sesame Street. It was lame and always seemed to me like it was meant for the kids in special ed. The teacher would go sit in the back of the classroom and sleep.

The 1st season or two of Sesame Street has a parental warning on it - the Grouch smoked cigars.

Can't. I'm not a teacher with a taxpayer funded pacifier to stick in front of my customers.

That's why. If the teacher didn't give a shit, why should the students?

It sure satisfies Romeny though.
Isn't liquidating corporations and making a hundred million on them while closing the doors and putting workers out on the street the same thing?

That's the nature of taxation, appropriations and spending in a democratic society. There are dozens of things you and I pay for that we don't want, don't use, or don't need. A $ 1 Trillion dollar Iraq War comes to mind.
