I will go with .1uf for the coupling caps.....the K409 s and what sort of preamp are you using with yours? I think maybe I will buy one of those Chinese Music Angels....American tube preamps are $$$$

Stereo is out for dusting so no music till I lug the heavy thing back in here. All I hear is ringing in my ears when there is what should be silence. Part of growing old.

this thing sounds great even with the Kenny solid state...Thanks for all your help Bob!
The power supply caps are those in the big silver can topside. Electrolytics. Those definitely need replacing, the electrolytic paste inside of those are dried out after fifty years. They will work but if one shorts it'll take out your output transformers. The easiest way to do it is to mount separate electrolytic capacitors underneath. I had tremendous and patient help from GordonW and a few others over at AK and the least I can do is help out with my little bit of hardwon knowledge. The hardest thing was teaching myself how to read the schematics, luckily those 175s are well documented in the SAMS literature.

The death cap thing is easily handled by replacing it with an x1/y2safety cap. Those will short open if there's a failure in the power supply caps.
Don't worry about it if this all sounds like gobblety gook, a few years ago I would've gone crosseyed after the first three previous sentences. I've rebuilt a few of those amp175s before I stumbled on to my present rig of two amp150 monoblocks.

Ouch, tinnitis is something I haven't had to deal with. Kind of amazing considering the amount of nail/staple gun hours I've put on these tired old ears. Not to mention swingin'a 28 oz. ripclaw or a 16oz. Plumb roofing axe. Hope you get some tunes up and running soon, it's the only thing that keeps me sane!
What have you got?

Go with 1.5s. I don't own a tube pre amp. I've used my Marantz 2270 preamp section which is easy with that one, just remove the jumper. Right now I'm using the soundcard (M-Audio Audiophile 192) PCIe slot in my computer (homebrew Asus motherboard tower job). It does the job pretty well.

Yep, that can cap topside has four electrolytic capacitors stuffed in it. Which rectifier tube is in your amp? 5U4GB?

I'm listening to the sound of my sisters ancient dog wandering in circles, bumping into things and whining. Blind as a bat and deaf as a stump. It's time, but she won't hear of it.

GAW!
