That may be Schaap's influence, if not Shaap himself. They used to do day long birthday broadcasts for Parker, Armstrong, Monk, Coltrane and a lot of other jazz greats, maybe still do.

Great station!

I never really cared for Cat Stevens but I had a girlfriend who really loved him. (She's Jewish. Wonder how she feels about him now.) I took her to see him live at the Cap Center years ago.

This was at the time when people first started shouting "woo!" as a form of applause and approval. As Cat began to play one of his favorite and more recognizable numbers the crowd "woo'ed" their approval when they recognized it a bar or two in.

Well, apparently, Mr. Stevens disapproved of being approved of in this manner. He abruptly stopped playing, looked out at the audience and said something like, "What do you people mean, 'woo'? Bloody Yank yobs!"

Then, when he had the silence and respect he felt was his due, he resumed.

Poncy bastard!

John

John, me gran liked 'Morning has broken', so as a present when she visited me mum made me listen to it OVER AND OVER on her old suitcase stereo until we figured out the notes and I could play it simply on the violin.

I still can't stand it

Pete

And that's not even a Cat Stevens composition.

Regards,

D I didn't know that. But man did I hear his version a lot! I could probably sing it right now pretty much on key. Well as on key as I ever am

I'll spare you guys But my poor better half, she'll get to hear "I remember when I was a lad, times were hard and things were bad...." after a few tonight.
