I knew you'd say that so I withheld one tiny fact. He retired before the kerfuffle over his sermons.
Gotcha!

No, Michigan was one of several states to get stimulus funds to balance the budget.
And the "union bashing" was your point, not mine. I'm simply suggesting that giving union folks "priority access" to stimulus funds via contributions to state payrolls was an objective, not a unintended result.

Several? How about all of them except for a couple whose politically motivated governors refused to accept it. So, I reckon that anyone whose state didn't receive any of their tax dollars in the form of stimulus funds has only their Republican governor to blame.

So it was I who said that Obama "paid off the unions"? Somehow, I must have forgotten.
What evidence do you have for this nefarious scheme to funnel money to the unions?

All this Wright bashing, I wonder how many of you saw the PBS series on blacks serving in the military in both world wars. In WW I they placed the whole regimant under the French command because Black Jack Pershing would have nowt to do with them. They were fairly treated by the French and distinguished themselves.
In WW II they again distinguished themselves. frex the Tuskegee AIrmen, only to return home to Jim Crow laws. Just perhaps the Reverend has cause for his bitterness?

Sorry, that's just wrong to me.

It is surprising how you think of Michigan first and the United Stares as secondary. Federal money is money for the whole nation.
If your state gets in trouble and gets funds from the Federal Government to help it then we are helping ourself too i.e one of our own. From what I can tell your state needs it perhaps more than California, which has it own share of problems but not really a case in which a major city has lost 50% of its own population, like Detroit. I am not one bit concerned that my federal taxes have helped Michigan or any other state. I am surprised at such an attitude. Moreover, your post sort of demonstrates that States sometimes do not do as good a job as the Federal Government. When you pay Federal taxes you are doing so for the whole nation, not just your state.

The internet isn't necessarily an accurately representative gauge of what either the left-of-center or right-of-center are thinking but it is an indicator. How much of one is open to discussion. That said, toward the end of the G.W. Bush presidency there was a fair amount of heavy-handed anti-Bush sentiment cybering around. However, it paled in comparison to the onslaught that was visited upon us all after the '08 presidential election. And it was vituperative to the extreme. Obama's a Muslim; Obama's a Kenyan; the born-in-Hawaii evidence is all contrived. And out and out racist crap, which by the way, is a term that I use advisedly.
Yes, there was a lot nonsense spewed about on Bush but it was and remains nothing compared to what has been flying around on Obama.
