Executive privilege can be invoked on behalf of any member of the Executive Branch.

You know, like Attorney General Holder?

True that. But doesn't the invocation of such privilege also imply that the President has knowledge of the documents?

No. Executive privilege applies to the President as well as other members of the Executive Branch. He may or may not have direct knowledge of the documents.

So he would invoke privilege (which he has decried) without knowing why? Seems a bit of a stretch to me.
