I've been trying hard to integrate myself into this thread, but, you guys are out of my league musically.
The last live band I heard was the high school band at the Senior Faire.

My wife usually sees live music because I drag her out - or if her boy is playing - but most often she is glad that she went along. We do hear live music in church on Sunday, and we are fortunate to have a virtuoso for an organist. I'm not a big fan of most of the "contemporary Christian" music, however. To borrow a term I've use here before, most of it sounds too "fluffy." Gimme an old Charles Wesley hymn and I feel right at home.
Regards,
D-Ray

Integrate away Barbara- I'm very pleased how popular this thread has become. It started as a way to see some coming together of the different factions here at PChat. I was a little startled by some of the venom being bandied about when I showed up way back in December '11 and felt it could maybe break some ice and re-humanize some of our discussions. Mostly we are talkin' about who or what we are listening to at the moment. Right now I'm listening to Robert Cray "Strong Persuader" Smoking Gun track on local community radio KOCI-Costa Mesa thru my computer's internet connection. So, no hard fast rules other than it's gotta be music. Even that one isn't a rule at all. Books on CD and even talk radio isn't out of bounds. We even like to share new found tunes no matter what the vintage. It's like a respite from the other stuff that all of us are so passionate about is the way I'm digging it. So, join in!

I've always opined that we are Rhythm & Blues Methodist church folk. I still don't understand why my wife pinches me when I say that, couldn't be her Catholic upbringing..

I was involved in a group that met regularly with folks from the AME church. There was no namby pamby music in their services. You had to move when you heard it.

I saw this the first time on PBS and that's what prompted me to buy some Mayer. I have tired of his schtick, but I still admit to liking "Room for Squares," and particularly the track "City Love" that was featured on the Crossroads DVD.

ok......I'll take a dip in the shallow end....
My techy type son has helped me to put songs on my iphone so I can listen via ear bud or on this gadget type thing that makes the sound loud enough to hear while at my desk at work. I don't have any particular genre, I just use this shazam app any time I hear something I like and then purchase it on my iphone. So, my "collection" is somewhat electic (or, perhaps, erractic is more appropriate)
I have oldies.....Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, etc.
Not so oldies, but, still goodies, The Band, Creedence Clearwater, Eagles, etc.
Newer stuff.... pop, country, classic........
and, my all time favorite....music from classic muscials....Guys and Dolls, Hello Dolly, Fiddler on the Roof, ect.

If you enjoy it, that's what's important. To quote a song Sheryl Crow performed at the Crossroads Festival: "If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad . . ."

Lipps, Inc.---Funkytown
There was this girl in Ohio-----Lisa.
Lisa was, well-------LOOSE.
The girl had mad skills.
One fine summer day in 1980, I was cruising by Lisas place on my bike, when she shouted from the porch, "Hey Read, got any weed?" As luck would have it....I had a couple joints on me. I went inside, we toked up, she spun up this song on her Dads turntable.......
Let's just say, that was the best four minutes of my young life..........
