I realise this may prevent the lefts' dream of government deciding everything we do to help and or protect us. We're basically stupid and it's amazing we can tie our own shoes in the morning.
So, superpacs are only made up of corporations? And corporations are not made up of people who joined willingly?

So Pete, if corporations willingly joined with other corporations to advance their own interests is that a good thing?

At recent stockholder meetings somme shareholder proposed a motion that they be told exactly where the corporation was making political contributions. The boards of directors voted these motions down. So much for "people getting together."

Yes. Given enough corporations and businesses and unions and other organizations. Corporations compete with one another and, as such, counter the power of one another. Big government is dangerous precisely because it holds a monopoly position. The interests of corporations are not monolithic. The history of the federal government from the nascent progressive movement in the late nineteenth century through today is an excercise of power consolidation by the resolute usurpation of state and local authority.

Excellent. Central control is a proven failure.

Should there be a limit to the size of corporations?

This has been done for decades. They're called trade associations.

Monopolies are not free market for sure and should be prohibited. They aren't though, ask anyone who deals with the 3 or 4 big oil companies.
So perhaps size, but based on the overall market, as a ratio or percentage, not an absolute? For our current dislike of corps and big business they have been very good for us in many real ways.

I just think that in our overall concept of democracy and freedom, economic freedom and democracy should be considered as well. There is no question that wealth is power, Accordingly, the concentration of wealth leads to a concentration in power. When that level of power is wielded by an institution with no democratic control, we have a problem. One thing I would like to see is a more robust enforcement of antitrust laws, which hasn't really been done for decades. Hell, even Ron Paul would agree with me on that one.

The one trade association everyone carefully does not discuss is the Chamberpot of Commerce. They are a bigger threat than all the terrorists.
