Sounds like your 'situational awareness' combines real-time data about the situation (there's a tiger right over there), prior knowledge (tigers are super-dangerous giant cats that eat people), and values (I am strongly in favor of self-preservation). With this understanding, I can say I see situational awareness as a great guide to conduct.

Ok, in my understanding, values are objectives, goals, rules, preferences, etc that guide decision-making. They may come from DNA, or may not. If they guide decisions, they are still values. Morals are kind of a vague subset of 'important highly-authoritative' values, often claimed to be from god or something.

(#666) What moral values of yours don't I like?
