We're already well down the wrong road and I don't see us getting out of the road's ever deepening rut. What you and others on this site write is an example of what is driving us further down this road and deepening the rut. Both sides of our great political divide are evil as you are trying to point out regarding what that day in Charlottesville was and has become. Thing is, the blues are the lessor of the two evils and I'm not just referencing Charlottesville. They're still evil though.

A pertinent example of evil as used above. In 2016 many voters cast their ballots for the lessor of two evils candidate. Clinton and Trump got many of these votes.
