If Clinton personally helped anyone who had overriding interests that were detrimental to the US government or our country, that would not be a good thing. However, even in diplomacy, when you "help" other national interests, that is at one moment in time, just like when we had the CIA "help" Osama Bin Laden vis a vis fighting the Russkies, or the Iran Contra affair.
Diplomacy and politics are all about learning how to create and cultivate friends, and then knowing how to judge the sincerity and value of these friendships, and how to use, leverage, and influence these friendships and relationships.
These quid pro quo relationships are often best accomplished under big, dark rocks that will never see the light of day. One theory I have heard explaining Trump's reluctance to release his tax info is because he has over $100M in loans from Russian interests, and he is very eager to use some of his RNC money to reimburse himself, and then roll that money back to the Russian armbreakers.
