You can have all the "base" you want. If you can't get your base out to vote, you got problems. Money is still the mother's milk of politics, and the Repubs are currently out-collecting and out-spending the Dems. Factor in polling data, which has been flat or in decline for the Prez, and I think the Dems a bit concerned.
