I grew up where there were at least 30 guns on the property and me and my siblings were taught proper gun usage and safety.

Guns are worse because they make a deadly outcome so easy to happen. It's actually pretty hard to kill yourself by slitting your wrists. Most people who try that survive. The gun in the mouth? That works.
When you are taught proper gun usage and safety, that is very helpful as long as you are in a reasonable state of mind. If everyone in your family is always in a reasonable state of mind, you all are fortunate indeed.
