I see your point, but am not so sure I agree that they are comparable. Media Matters and Moveon.org are clearly advocacy groups and not a "news network" on the TeeVee. Moveon.org, to my knowledge, does not advertise themselves as "fair and balanced," and go on to imply that they report the news objectively, so that you can decide what your views are ("we report, you decide"). All I'm saying is that probably the biggest news channel on TeeVee isn't a news channel at all, but a thinly veiled proxy for the RNC and the GOP spin-machine.
My biggest bitch with Fox News is their deliberate attempts to manipulate or even manufacture the "news" in favor of the GOP. Granted, CBS ran a Bush draft-dodging story based on a counterfeit document, but showed journalistic ethics by shit-canning Dan Rather as a result of it (even though the underlying story was likely true, i.e., Dubya got favorable treatment to avoid real (dangerous) military service). BTW, I'm no fan of CBS News either or all the other dumbed-down TV news. Shouldn't Fox respond in kind and shit-can anybody who showed Obama's fake Kenya birth certificate on the air?
Bottom line - Fox News simply has
NO journalistic standards/ethics and they are a disgraceful example of a "news organization" - plain and simple.
Should government do anything about it (or the mosque)? The First Amendment says no and I agree. As for Fox, however, they need to be exposed and humiliated for being the GOP shill that they really are and ignored by all other media outlets when they try to manufacture stories. The other media outlets are compounding the disservice that Fox does to the nation by becoming their echo chamber.
