Link please, about the burned alive white kid. All I can find is a white kid, with a 1st degree sunburn, after being attacked by a wild, out of control, group of 16 year old blacks that tried to burn him alive on his front porch. I do not condone this and the kids that did it should be severely punished.

Now, tell me what this has to do with a 30 something wannabe (" white..really?") cop killing a 17 Year old black man after stalking him for daring to walk in his own neighborhood.

Today I heard that Zimmerman's lawyer says he used a "term of endearment" before he plugged Travon in the chest. It was "fucking goon". According to his attorney this is an affectionate saying in high schools today. Well, maybe, but Zimmerman is not in high school, and I am pretty sure what he said, on the 911 tape was, " fucking coon".

The kids that set another kid on fire cannot stand behind the "stand your ground" legislation in Florida, but Zimmerman can. Also, if he had not stalked the kid maybe he would have not gotten his ass kicked. Good thing he had a gun to kill the Skittles wielding bandit after he scared the shit out of him.

You're correct that they are two different things. I have a bad habit of using them interchangeably as Missouri has a Castle Doctrine law with a stand your ground clause.

To the best of my understanding, in Missouri the defendant has the responsibility to invoke a defense from whichever statute applies to him after which the burden of proof falls on the state to show that the defendant has broken the law. Until that is done, the defendant is granted immunity from criminal and civil action.

I doubt that I'm explaining this correctly as I'm not an attorney, and apparently even the attorneys are unable to reach a consensus on this matter.

The laws are about as clear as mud, the odds are that by using lethal force you are going to open up a really bad can of worms, and this is a situation best avoided if possible.

Myself, I'm a disciple of the "desecration is the better part of valor" line of reasoning, and avoid situations such as this like the plague.

Maybe they watch too many cop shows on teevee.

But I still think that the vast majority of people, including the cops, are pretty decent sorts. Not perfect, mind you, but decent. Society wouldn't function at all if that weren't the case.

I think death is far more certain with a gun added to the situation than without the gun.
But, I am in agreement that there are more facts to come out.
