Tea Party founder Joe Walsh - "I left the Republican Party almost exactly one year ago. Someone asked me that day why I left. I said, 'Because the GOP no longer supports democracy. It embraces fascism. It believes in conspiracies. And it's a cult. I don't want to belong to a cult.' That answer still holds."

What those horrible apologists for slavery in Florida need to do, is to follow the example of this state, which is going to establish a memorial to the victims of slavery. Here's how their legislation reads:
==================================================
Slavery Memorial.—
(1) It is the intent of the Legislature to recognize the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States and the American Colonies and to honor the nameless and forgotten men, women, and children who have gone unrecognized for their undeniable and weighty contributions to the United States.
(2) There is established the Slavery Memorial.
(a) The memorial is administered by the Department of Management Services.
(b) The Department of Management Services shall develop a plan for the design, placement, and cost of the memorial. The plan shall include the designation of an appropriate public area for the memorial on the premises of the Capitol Complex, as defined in s. 281.01, not including the State Capital Circle Office Complex. The department shall consider the recommendations of the Historical Commission as required pursuant to [identifying numbers here ] and shall coordinate with the Division of Historical Resources of the Department of State in developing the plan. The department shall submit the plan to the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
================================================== ====
But can you imagine the state of Florida doing something like this?????

Floridians have their noses in the reproductive organs of American women...they have their noses in the confidential discussions between mental health professionals and their minor clients.
Why would anything fucking floridians do be difficult for me to imagine?
Meantime...I like the guidelines for a memorial to the victims of slavery.

Here is a very good comment from Gene Robinson, a black columnist at WaPo.
Quote:
“Where to begin? I’ll start with my own family history. One of my great-great-grandfathers, enslaved in Charleston, S.C., was indeed compelled to learn to be a blacksmith. But he had no ability to ‘parlay’ anything, because his time and labor were not his own. They belonged to his enslaver. He belonged to his enslaver.
“To pretend my ancestor was done some sort of favor by being taught a trade ignores the reality of race-based, chattel slavery as practiced in the United States. He was sold like a piece of livestock at least twice that I know of. To say he ‘developed skills,’ as if he had signed up for some sort of apprenticeship program, is appallingly ahistorical. As was true for the millions of other enslaved African Americans, anything he achieved was in spite of his bondage.”
|
That is forced training and there is no modern day equivalent. But its one way to make slavery disappear if we call them all trainees. But what about their concubines? What will they be called? Hookers in training?

This is from an Indian publication that I am familiar with and this article is spot on regarding certain elements of Fascism in the US.
Anatomy of Fascism
Quote:
|
In his highly acclaimed book, How Fascism Works, Jason Stanley, the Jacob Urowsky Professor of Philosophy at Yale University, informs readers how fascism works in modern societies. Stanley’s in-depth research indicates that several nations have embraced extreme forms of nationalism, which are often founded on many of the mechanisms of fascist politics. Nations where we see forces of fascism at play are Russia, Hungary, Poland, Turkey, Myanmar, and Philippines, to name a few.
|
He also includes India to this list which is a reason I landed on this article.
Quote:
In this article, I will share several important characteristics of fascist politics, which Stanley presents in his book. According to Stanley, the first major characteristic of fascist politics is rewriting history, which is based on a mythical past.
The mythical past serves to unify people of a nation by glorifying that past. In the fascist version of history, a nation was religiously pure, or racially pure, or culturally pure in the past until the members of minority communities came into the country and made it impure. The past was also a glorious period where wars were fought by brave sons of the soil who were always victorious. However, such days of glory have been lost due to such values as secularism, liberal cosmopolitanism, and multiculturalism. Fascist politics argues that these values have weakened the nation politically, economically and culturally.
|
Trumpism is Fascism. I don't believe that Trump is a fascist, he does not have the IQ nor the awareness due to his narcissism, but he sure has collected a following who are indeed fascists.
This is an article I found by using some very specific search terms associated with fascism. Its short and very well written while describing our current political malaise, a twice impeached and multi indicted crook is the leader of one of two main political parties while also being a front runner for the presidency.

So, you think that a memorial to the victims of slavery could be set up in Florida? Despite the fact that the current governor praises slavery, and his party is fascist? Doesn't that seem extremely unlikely?
