Reckon if you or I did that what would actually happen to us. Reckon if one of us ran up against a guy on the street who was behaving in a way as to aggravate the shit out of us...and we took him down and choked the life outta him. Reckon we'd walk away from it with the same lack of consequence as Danny Pantaleo.

You said we must not have bad cops. I say, there's lots of bad stuff we must not have that we have all the time (and I'm not even being a nannystatist and talking about the Big Macs that everybody's obese kid is gulping down). We must not have bad cops? Good. Nor must we have bad public office holders. But do we do much of anything about all the bad cops we have? Fuck no. Just like we don't do much of anything about all the bad public officials we have. But we sure complain about it plenty.

So here's where I'm going with this. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves. If we need to have no bad cops the people need to start demanding it...and not just the people most often victimized by it. White people dug into their cozy bungalows in Fairfax County, Westchester County, Marin County, DuPage County...need to start demanding it. Although most of the white folk in those counties probably don't give a shit in Rodney King's hat how many black men get their brains half beaten out, the life choked out of them, or shot in the top of the head.
