Recognizing a railroad job = spurious indignation.
Turning your back on the elected mayor of NYC = righteous protest against evil

1. Criminals choose to be criminals.
2. Brown earned his death.

I can agree, as long as you agree that there are also cops who choose to be criminals.
And of course, we occasionally require a grand jury as part of the process of sorting out who's a criminal and who isn't, cop or civilian.

Here is a case out of Boston area that is quite compelling.
Still waiting for justice after SWAT team member kills innocent grandfather
An excerpt that caught my attention.

Do you think it was even marginally more difficult to buy crack cocaine in Framingham on the night after Stamps’s death than it was the night before? Or in other words, what exactly is all this violence achieving?
|
Rest of the story is here, a long piece but very interesting and well written. The case that's made here is that the police create these violent situations when not warranted and then it results in civilian deaths. And of course they are held harmless aided by the DA's.

From the same article:

One might think that a policy of serving warrants for low-level drug crimes with battering rams, flash grenades and a SWAT team could foreseeably lead to the death of an innocent person. Indeed it has, dozens and dozens of times. But such tactics have already repeatedly been upheld by the courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
|
This is what I label "institutional brutality." No one even thinks about whether they should do this brutal stuff. It is official, it is sanctioned, it is procedure. It is institutionalized.
The legislature needs to fix this. Maybe it can happen, in Massachusetts.

Here is another ridiculous situation and it's local to me.
Off-Duty Cop Wrestles, Slams Woman Into Car After Fender-Bender
Here is rest of the story. Reading is believing.
Quote:
|
Where the police would normally arrest a man who approached a person after a fender bender and initiated physically violence, the as yet unnamed officer is of course given immunity by his police department, while the woman he assaulted now has a warrant out for her arrest for a “hit and run,” and for using force against the officer.

Why does a cop feel every situation requires getting in a physical assault? Their training is deficient, if they cannot realize that talking through things, exchanging license and insurance information, and waiting for an on-duty cop to show up is the right thing to do.
The cop is very lucky some good samaritan didn't happen to stroll past and interject themself into the situation. Yet another case here of Ready, Fire, Aim.

"A San Jose police spokesperson confirmed the man was a cop, but didn’t offer any more details, which indicates the girls did not attack him first as some are speculating because that would be the first thing mentioned."
Post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy.

What did the barmaid do? She cut off the inebriated pig and he beat her for it.
Abbate was convicted of felonious assault and sentence to 41 months probation and was fired...of course not for anything specifically related to this incident, but under CPD bylaws...no felons can be coppers in Chicago, at least not until they've been convicted of the felony they committed. In 2012 a federal jury awarded Kathryn Obryka $850,000 in damages from Abbate and the City of Chicago, for it's culpability in "code of silence" behavior charged by the plaintiff.
Hopefully these women will receive similar justice and this belligerent motherfucker will end up repeating "Ya want fries with that?" for the rest of his miserable life.
