I believe you are wrong here.
Putin has always opposed ISIS and its affiliates. Fought them in the Caucasus, supported Assad against them, warned us of the consequence of our Libyan regime change.
Russia has a very large Muslim population.

Oh I wasn't thinking that Putin especially likes ISIS. I was thinking that he'd find a reason to be against our action, because it was us.

So much blood a treasure lost by the most inept president in modern history. He wants to stand there saying he refuses to get dragged back into a war in Iraq. We would not have to if his policies were not failures. He doesn't want to go back in because it would be admitting he was dead wrong.

Preventing a Slaughter in Iraq
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/08/op...iraq.html?_r=0
"Under pressure from the United States, Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki of Iraq finally agreed this week to cooperate with the Kurds and to provide air support, and should continue to do so."

OK, why is the president to blame for slaughter or potential slaughter in Iraq, and moved to order airstrikes to avoid such blame? Why is he NOT to blame, and not so mitivated, in the case of Congo, scene of huge repeated slaughters, or Nigeria, scene of repeated recent slaughters and outrages? Why is he not to blame, and so motivated, in the case of Syria, scene of massive slaughter?
It's because we invaded and occupied Iraq. Obama is stuck with blame inherited from George W. Bush.

The same goes for the economy.
Fuck things up, then blame Obama.
It's what they do.
That being said, I'm all for helping out the Kurds, with air support, weapons, supplies, whatever.
That's because my son who has done 4 tours over there has told me that the Kurds have their shit together.
We shouldn't need any boots on the ground for that. The Kurds can be their own boots.
As for the Shias and the Sunnis, let em fight it out and I'll root for heavy casualties on both sides.

No one said he wasn't to blame for the death and destruction sweeping over Africa, the Middle East and the Ukraine. His lead from behind, movable red lines and direct involvement is the reason for for it. However the topic of this thread is "Iraq unravels!"
Sorry but the lefts "let's blame Bush" is illogical to anyone with half a brain.
Obama went against "ALL" advice on how to handle Iraq and moved our troops out. Inaction early on in Syria and his overthrow in Libya and Egipt has created the environment for ISIS to grow. The growth that they have been watching all along. When Bush left office the the region was stable and had normal growth and rebuilding.

I heard on Chuck Todd that that the Kurds are indeed a good guerilla fighting force but lack the experience or capability to take on a standing army with modern (in this case stolen American) weapons. Which in a way is what ISIS is....it is a sort of quick strike logistically optimized lightning army. Nihilistic maybe, but at this point capable of great damage and terror to those in their sights.
