I mean Damn ,dont you think the Guy feels bad enough,2 teens go into the nite and misfortune happens,this guy was assuming the worst.Germany Would not be so hot for justice If the German Student Had killed the Owner of the House Then What.Maybe I am missing someting.

The emphasis on the nationalities of the alleged perpetrator, and the victim, in the title of this thread, is evidence of tribal instincts at work.

Quite understandable, and not a virulent expression as such things go. I hasten to add that I know the author to basically be an admirable fellow, a man of solid rationality and an abundance of good will. Nonetheless, we see here a bit of tribalism.

Oh, the headline's OK. It lets us know about the emotional impact the story has for you. I'm just discussing why that emotional impact is there.

If say, an Italian homeowner shot a Brazilian teen in a garage in Italy, neither you nor I would hear of it. And if by chance we did, we wouldn't take much notice.

I think if the headlines had been like this http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...n_5149189.html then of course Justice should be screamed for.but on the situation in tennesee I am sorry it is being turned into a lynching for the homeowner,the Germans want Blood for Blood,And What difference does the Blood work matter.just last week every one was so quessy about Executions Now the feeling is reversed.

And Of course the Gun Ownership issue will come into play,as it should.Now he has been charged with deliberate Homicide so I am sure there is something else going on too that we are not privy to.Or maybe he is going to be a sacrificial Lamb To the German People.

With a tiny bit empathy the sentiments could probably be comprehensible. And yes - it makes a difference if somebody pees into the Rhine River or into my 1958 Harman Kardon TA 230 Stereo Festival Receiver.
