That is exactly the point, Pete. The average Joe can't just 'pull the trigger' in many cases for a variety of reasons.
And, like someone pointed out earlier, even a trained marksman is at the mercy of the bad guy when the element of surprise is added to the equation. (Excuse me, Mr. Bad Guy, but I'm a responsible gun owner and I have to go unlock my gun and ammunition and load my gun so I can defend myself. You don't mind waiting just a few minutes, now do you?)

Did you read some of that Armed Citizen blog?
http://www.americanrifleman.org/Blog...x?cid=25&id=21
They aren't strictly neccessary where I live now, but they sure have been other places.
Back when I thought it was a good idea to take security guard training (to be one), the instructor talked a little bit about a story then playing out. An old lady had shot a burgler in the back as he was fleeing.
She had been robbed the year before and then bought the gun. Instructor: 'No Grand Jury would send her to court'.

I can just see me 5'2" wife using a shotgun, I still think a Beretta Tomcat will do the trick. Plus when he opens a window or door the noise inside and out will wake the whole neighbourhood, not just us. No kids in the house means they are loaded at all times, just need to pop the safety.
As for pulling the trigger? When you know it is them or you that is a hell of an incentive.

That's excellent!
Agreed a pistol can be much easier to handle. And wow is that a mean looker!
I don't have kids in the house either, my little revolver is handy. When we do have kids around I put it up.

mpholland, your points are exact and correct. I concur completely.
Anyone want to try a comparison of how dead you will be if shot by a .22 caliber six shooter versus an assault rifle?
I'd bet you will be just as dead on either account.

Actually assault rifles are very little larger than .22 calibre, about .27 and were designed to maim rather than kill. The assumption being that when the enemy was maimed it would take two of his buddies to carry him off the field, thus taking three opponents out of action.

Yeah, now when they really want to take someone down they use a sniper rifle - .50 calibre.

I find it amazing and maybe disengenuous that you claim that you didn't know that. Comparing a plinker .22 short/long cartridge and what goes into an mil spec rifle should have given you some clue.
I'm calling bullshit, sorry.

Isn't the Barrett .50 available to anyone who has the hankering and the $ to buy one? I guess I need to visit a gun show for the first time in my life instead of wasting my time at Gem and Mineral shows. I can't wait for someone to tell me that it's just as easy to hit someone in the head with a rock and kill them, as it is to shoot them. Dead is dead is how these assholes like to put it. Maybe I could weaponize a kite and commit mass murder? What about bicycles? Any of you sick gun nuts thought of killer bicycles? Weld some blades to the spokes and mow down beachgoers.
Hey, gun nuts! Go look at the pictures of those kids and their teachers. Feel anything? Anything at all? You disgust me.
Happiness is a warm gun....f**king paranoid losers.
