With this being a Presidential election year and the government leaking information like a sieve. I can see why the Executive Branch is not even wanting to go "In Camera" with this committee. My take is it might undermine informants and on going investigations.

He has decried its over-use, not the principle.

That would imply that the only reason for invoking executive privilege is to conceal executive malfeasance or criminal misconduct. For all its earlier failings, "Fast and Furious" is an ongoing operation with national security implications. As such, it's perfectly appropriate to invoke Executive privilege for the protection of sensitive operational details.

Holder is being held in contempt (for breaking the law) for failure to break the law (by releasing classified documents).

Honestly, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
